This Memorial Day, let’s take a moment to remember the brave men and women who have served our country. Our troops put their lives on the line every day to protect our freedoms, and we owe them a debt of gratitude. Here are some ways you can show your support for our troops this Memorial Day:

1. Fly the Flag
There are a few ways you can display the American flag to show your support for our troops on Memorial Day. One way is to fly the flag outside your home or business. You can also display a flag decal on your car or wear a patriotic pin on your lapel to show your support for our soldiers and veterans. No matter how you choose to show your support, be sure to do it with respect.
2. Place Flags on Gravesites
Visit your local cemetery and place flags on the graves of fallen soldiers. This is a small but significant way to show that we remember their sacrifice and that their lives were not lost in vain.
3. Attend a Memorial Day Event
There are many Memorial Day events happening across the country, and attending one is a great way to support our troops. Many of these events are free, and they offer an opportunity to learn more about the sacrifices our soldiers have made. While you’re at it, find the time to visit other places so you and your family can enjoy the holiday even more.

4. Join a Memorial Day Parade
Many communities across the country hold parades to honor our troops on Memorial Day. You can watch from the sidelines, or even join the parade yourself. This is a great way to show your support and gratitude while also getting some exercise. Check your local newspaper or community website to find out what’s happening in your area.
5. Watch the National Memorial Day Parade
If you cant attend the parade, the least you can do is watch the National Memorial Day Parade on the boob-tube. The event is held annually in Washington, D.C. and is televised nationwide. This year’s parade will take place on Monday, May 25 at 2:00 p.m. ET. Grab some popcorn and watch from the comfort of your own home to show your support.

6. Send a Care Package
Our troops love getting care packages from home, and you can bet they appreciate them even more on Memorial Day. You can put together your own care package or donate to one of the many organizations that send them to our troops overseas. Either way, you’ll be bringing a smile to a soldier’s face this Memorial Day.

Fill your care package with lots of useful stuff that they’d appreciate, especially while they’re out in the field. Start with non-perishable snacks granola bars, nuts, and dried fruit. Then fill the package with toiletries such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrush, sunscreen, bug spray, hand sanitizer, lip balm, shaving cream and razor, deodorant, and feminine hygiene products for our lady warriors.

7. Write Letters to Deployed Soldiers
Our troops love getting letters from home, and it’s a great way to let them know you’re thinking of them. You can find addresses for deployed soldiers through organizations like Any Soldier (www.anysoldier.com).
8. Donate to Veteran’s Organizations
There are many organizations that support troops, veterans, and their families. Some popular charitable organizations include the Wounded Warrior Project, Homes for Our Troops, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the USO. Your donations help these charities provide much-needed support for our troops and their families. You can donate money, clothing, food, or other items to help these organizations continue their work.
9. Give Your Old Cellphone and Other Devices
You can donate your old cell phone and other gadgets to help our troops stay connected with their loved ones back home. The Cell Phones for Soldiers program collects old phones and uses the proceeds to buy prepaid calling cards for soldiers. You can also donate old laptops, iPods, digital cameras, and video game consoles to troops through the Operation Compassion project.
10 . Donate Calling Cards or Gift Cards
If you don’t have any old phones or gadgets to donate, you can still help our troops stay connected with their loved ones. You can buy and send prepaid calling cards or gift cards to troops through organizations like the USO, Soldiers’ Angels, and Operation Gratitude. These cards allow soldiers to call home for free or at a reduced rate.
11. Volunteer
If you have some free time, consider volunteering with an organization that supports our troops or military families. You can also volunteer at your local VA hospital, veteran’s resource center, or homeless shelter. You can help with everything from writing letters to packing care packages to providing meals and other assistance. Many veterans face physical, emotional, and financial challenges when they return home from service, and it is important to show them that we are here to help.
12. Say Thank You
Take a moment out of your day to send an email, write a letter, or make a phone call thanking our troops for all they do. Let them know that you appreciate their sacrifice and service and are grateful for their hard work and dedication.
13. Reach Out to Military Families
If you know someone who has a family member in the military, check in on them and see how they are doing. Many military families face stress and anxiety while their loved ones are deployed, and your support can make a big difference. Find out what they need most and help out in any way you can. You can personally donate to the family or hold a fundraiser for them. You can also host a simple dinner for the family.
14. Show Your Support on Social Media
If you really want to show your support for our troops, do it where everyone can see it. Post a message of support on your social media pages or write about your gratitude for our troops in your blog. You can also share articles, photos, and videos about our troops to help spread the word. Hashtags like #SupportOurTroops and #MemorialDay can help you find and share content about our troops.
15. Educate Yourself and Others About Memorial Day
Take some time to learn about the history of this holiday and what it represents. More importantly, learn about the wars that our troops have fought and the sacrifices that these brave souls had to make for our country. Share what you’ve learned with your family and friends so that we can all be more informed about the challenges faced by those who serve our country. Then encourage them to do the same and learn more about this holiday. By understanding the meaning of Memorial Day, we can better honor those who have given their lives for our country.
