It doesn’t matter where you’re having your New Year’s Eve celebration, what matters is that you stay safe while having the best time of your life. Of course, some of you may argue that those two don’t mix and match. But do you know what doesn’t really go together? You and a hospital bed.

No one wants to spend the holidays in the hospital recuperating from an accident that could have very well been avoided. If you don’t want to end up in the emergency room as the clock strikes 12, you must keep in mind the New Year’s Eve safety tips listed below.

 

Celebrating At Home

As far away your home is from the fireworks and the drunk revelers, there will always be trouble brewing if you fail to follow simple New Year’s Eve safety tips.

 

Prepare for Fire

Even lighting a few firecrackers or simple pyrotechnics can cause a lot of trouble if you’re not careful. Never light them indoors. Light them up in an open area away from anything that can catch fire. You should also be prepared in case fire breaks out.

If you’re going to a party, make sure you have arranged for a way to get home. Ideally, you should leave your car at home so you won’t be driving under the influence later on. If you did bring one and had a little too much to drink, leave your car. Make sure you parked your car in a secure area with the doors locked. Pick up your car as early as possible the next day.

The easiest way to get home is to hail a cab. Another option is to assign someone in your group to be your designated driver. You can also hire a personal chauffeur to take you from party to party and safely back home when it’s all over.

 

Walking Home

For those who live nearby, you can walk home. Just make sure you can still stand up. You can always ask a close friend to walk you home so you won’t end up hurting yourself. Don’t Fire Guns

Believe it or not, there are still people who bring out and fire their guns to celebrate the new year. There are so many wrongs with this act. First, even if you fire upwards so you “won’t hit anyone,” the bullet will still fall to earth at a dangerous speed.

Just the act of brandishing a gun may trigger a commotion, which may lead to injuries. And what if you get dunk and leave your gun just lying around? You better hope it does not end up in the wrong hands. Just remember, owning a gun does not make it okay to use it irresponsibly.

Are you going to one of those countdowns you see on TV? You have some serious planning to do then. Perhaps the most famous countdown celebration is the Ball Drop in Times Square. Book A Place to Stay

First of all, you must book a room in advance if you’re not staying with a friend or relative. It’s better if you find a place near Times Square so travelling, particularly the traffic situation, will not be a problem.

Stay Together

It’s better to go with someone to watch the ball drop. Remember, there is safety in numbers. If you’re going with a group of friends or relatives, the group should make sure to never let anyone out of their sight.
