I know what you’re thinking. I’ve been watching too many science fiction movies and reading too many comic books that the idea of being ready for an alien invasion has been ingrained in my mind.
Before you label me as cuckoo, you should now that sci-fi caters to the imagination and that without imagination, we would still be in the Dark Ages. Yep, many sci-fi geeks paved the way for many of the things that are common nowadays.
The idea of a world wide web, for example, where you communicate with others and get access to any information instantly was popularized by Ender’s Game. The science fiction novel was written in 1985, a few years before the early version of the internet became publicly known. This is just one poof that something imagined can come true.
Also, you should recognize that the universe is so vast that we’ve only seen and studied but a speck of it. Who knows? There might be another planet where beings like us exist.
As a matter of fact, there are evidences of signs of life outside planet Earth. Scientists have discovered that particular microbes on Earth can survive on Mars, or more specifically, beneath its surface.
Then there are the unending reports of unidentified flying objects or flying saucers and alien sightings. Just recently, a group of Navy pilots encountered “flight hazards” over Oceana while training. These UFOS reportedly had “no visible engine or infrared plumes,” according to CNN.
One of the earliest reports of a UFO sighting dates back to 1440 when “fiery disks” were supposedly seen over Ancient Egypt. In 1961, Barney and Betty Hill were allegedly abducted by aliens. Their story remained the same even while they were hypnotized, which led many to believe they were telling the truth. In 1969, a man named Jimmy Carter witnessed a strange white light in the sky one evening. The same man would become president of the United States eight years later.
So far, all these supposed alien sightings have been peaceful. But there remains the fear that these alien beings will soon attack the planet. So are you ready for an alien invasion?
Bug Out Shelter
If an alien invasion does happen, your first option is to bug in. You’ll be a sitting duck if you’re caught outside during an alien invasion. There’ll probably be no where you can run to based on the movies we’ve seen so far. Your best bet of steering clear of these violent beings would be to hide in the mountains or in the woods.
Build your bug out cabin where there is thick vegetation. Of course, you need to clear out the spot where you’ll be building your cabin. Just make sure you can’t easily be seen from above. You’re hiding from liens in flying saucers, remember.

Build An Underground Bunker
Aside from staying hidden above ground, you can also go under. Build an underground bunker. This will be quite a costly endeavor tough an underground bunker will be pretty useful not only during an alien invasion but on other kinds of crisis.
If you’re in a tornado prone area, building a bunker beneath your home truly makes sense. A bunker will also come in handy during terrorist attacks and other emergency situations. In the some way, you’ll be a lot safer underground when the aliens attack.
Stock Up
Make sure you have simple supplies of food and water. Fill your bug out shelter or underground bunker with lots of food and water. You should have more non-perishable foods, though.
Water is particularly important. Since man can live longer without food than water, you should make sure you hoard lots of water.
Stock up on non-perishable food such as canned goods, dried meats, dried fruits, grains, energy bars, pasta, peanut butter, condiments, cooking oil and lots of other things.
When you build your prepper party, consider the number of mouths to feed each day and how long you expect to stay in your bunker or shelter. Aside from making sure the family doesn’t go hungry for a long time, you should also think about your pets.

Collect Survival Gear
In an alien invasion, the best way to survive is to not be spotted. This means no more trips to Ikea or True Value. You also can’t order online from Grainger since no one will be making the deliveries. Gather as much survival gear as you can right now so you’ll have a better chance in an alien invasion or other kinds of tragedies.
Some of the basic items you should have in your shelter include fire starters, light sources like flashlights and headlamps, hand-crank or battery-operated radios and, of course, lots of batteries. You’ll also need lots of Duct tape, WD40, paracord, and first aid kits, among other things.
You should also have bug out bags ready for each member of the family. Each grab bag should contain food, water, and extra clothes. Since you’ll be on the road trying to make sense of the alien invasion, you’ll need a tent and sleeping bag for when you need to rest your tired mind and body.

Remember, you’ll be travelling a lot once you have to evacuate your shelter. You can’t afford bringing unnecessary items in your pack since a heavy load will make you tire easily.
Make War
We may need to fight back against the alien invaders. This would be quite difficult, however, since the beings behind an alien invasion would likely have sophisticated weapons and gadgets. If they can travel light years away to our planet, surely they have already created weapons that are far too sophisticated for us.
You’ll need weapons to deal with an alien invasion. Purchase firearms legally and train how to use them. You should also learn how to handle knives and other weapons.
According to Travis Taylor, an astrophysicist and consultant for NASA and the Defense Department, the best way to fight aliens is to adopt the war strategies of the Mujahideen. Taylor also emphasized the need to be ready for an alien invasion. He said we will be forced improvise weapons if we don’t prepare for such a scenario.
Make Peace
One of our first moves during an alien invasion is to find out if they come in peace. If they come with futuristic guns ablaze, then it’s quite obvious what they want. Still, if there is an opportunity to forge a peaceful coexistence, then this should be exhausted first.
For some Americans, allowing foreigners to live in the country leaves a bitter taste in their mouths. And we’re just talking about our Mexican neighbors. When it comes to an alien invasion, no wall can stop them.
What we can do is to break the walls between our fellow humans. Make peace with other countries and work together to fight the alien invaders. If you’ve seen the original Independence Day, all countries around the world, particularly those that had the capability to wage war, fought together to defeat the aliens.
If humankind doesn’t take the possible threat of an alien invasion seriously, we may find ourselves easy prey. We can’t simply fight back with frying pans and baseball bats. Preparing for this possibility means we have the means to defend ourselves and to survive.
