You have whole year ahead to finally do what you promised yet failed to do in the years that passed. Yep, it’s another chance to whip out your list of New Year’s resolutions and see which ones you succeeded in doing and which ones you failed miserably. For preppers, this is a great opportunity to revisit the ideals and ways of someone who cares for what the future holds for his or her loved ones.

Truth be told, it’s difficult to keep resolutions. However, it is not impossible. With a little more dedication and perhaps some leeway to make mistakes, you should be fine by the end of 2019. Here are a few New Year’s resolutions for preppers you may want to include in your list to give you a great start to the coming year.

Save Money

My money is on you wanting to save up for the future or for something you really want this coming new year. Saving money is a fixture among lists of New Year’s resolutions for preppers and other folks.

Black Pirate Pig Blue Skull & Crossbones Piggy Bank

Start by opening a savings account. If you already have one, set aside an amount each payday and put it in the bank. Another way is to cut back on unnecessary expenses. Instead of going out every Friday night, skip one or two a month or quit drinking and smoking entirely. You won’t believe how much you’ll save in the long run. Besides, a prepper or someone who truly understands the importance of preparing for the possible future knows how valuable one’s health is so drinking excessively and smoking should be out of the picture. More on that later.

Pay off Debts

One of the many possible New Year’s resolutions for preppers is to get rid of any financial burdens, particularly debts. Pay off any debt gradually while still putting some money aside for your savings. As preppers, you should be getting ready for whatever situation, including the loss of your job or money-making venture. If that happens, you will find it difficult to put food on the table much more pay off debts. You should take care of your IOUs while you still can.

Fill Up Your Prepper Pantry

If you’re a little cash-strapped, you may find it quite difficult to hoard on goods and other valuable supplies. That shouldn’t be the case, however. You don’t have to buy in bulk. Just buy a few extra items every time you go on a grocery run. After getting what you need, for example, grab another can of beans and a bottle of water. These should strictly go to your prepper pantry.

Great Tasting Emergency Food Ration

The immediate goal is to have at least 6 months’ worth of food and water. In calculating for that, you should consider how many people are living under your roof and how much each person normally consumes.

Purina Friskies Chicken in Gravy Cat Food

If you have family members who have specific needs, include them in your stockpile. This includes food for infants, the elderly, sick loved ones, and pets.

Become More Self-Sufficient

Off-gridders and homesteaders are probably having a heyday enjoying the food they grew and raised. You should do the same this coming 2019.

Natural Cedar Raised Garden Beds

One of your biggest expenses is food, obviously. You can be self-sufficient by planting your own crops. Start off with herbs and vegetables you can grow from kitchen scraps such as onion, celery, lettuce and ginger. You should also learn how to grow potatoes, a favorite among preppers and homesteaders, in your backyard. If you have a wide enough area, you can also raise quails or chickens.

DuroStar DS4000S Gas Powered Portable Generator

Next order of business? Bills. Lower your consumption of electricity to lower your expenses. You can do so by not depending that much on the electricity provided by power companies. Invest on other sources of energy such as solar panels. You can also invest on a generator so you can still have power even if there’s a blackout. Another way of being self-sufficient is to use a brick oven for cooking and heating water. You just need firewood to keep your fire going.

Prepare A Bug Out Plan

If you’ve been interested in prepping for quite a while now, you may have done a little of this and little of that. But to be completely prepared for the unknown, you should include making an evacuation plan as one of your New Year’s resolutions.

Emergency Zone 840-2 Urban Survival Bug Out Bag

First, prepare a bug out bag for each member of your group. This should contain ample food and water for at least three days. Some of the necessities you should pack in your grab bag include a torchlight and headlamp for light and waterproof matches, lighters, extra clothes, jacket, poncho, tarp, and thermal blankets for warmth.

Gerber StrongArm 420 High Carbon Stainless Steel Fixed Blade Survival Tactical Knife

Don’t forget other vital pieces of survival gear such as a multi-tool, paracord, duct tape, survival knife, emergency whistle, signal mirror, compass, and a first aid kit.

Live A Healthier Lifestyle

We’ve all been there before. We want to look and feel great but just can’t lay off the donuts or tub of ice cream. Every New Year’s resolution for preppers should include getting and staying healthy for the obvious reason that a healthy mind and body is better equipped to face disasters and other emergency situations.

Mongoose Dolomite Fat Tire Mountain Bike

Start off by quitting your vices. Smoking and having too much alcohol is not good for the body. You should also start exercising more regularly to keep the excess weight off. You get your much-needed exercise while also saving the gas money for other important stuff.

Sport2People Running Pouch Belt

Remember, in case of a zombie apocalypse, you may find yourself always on the move. The flesh chompers may catch up on you get tired easy and if you carry too much excess baggage.

Prepping does not end with the goals listed above. There are tons of other stuffs you can do to prepare yourself and your family for the unknown. Now is the perfect time to come up with a new list of New Year’s resolution for preppers and, this time, make good on your promises.
