Love is in the air! People are setting up plans to surprise their loved ones. Many are browsing different sites or going store to store looking for the perfect Valentine’s Day gift. And there’s likely a spike in number of people proposing or getting hitched in February. And then there’s you. For people who are not so lucky in love, the love month is like the end of the world. To help all the single men out there who are not satisfied being alone, here’s a guide to surviving the apocalypse, otherwise known as Valentine’s Day.

Let’s be clear about one thing first. Not all single men are looking for a relationship. Many of them are happy with their lives right now and they’re likely not actively pursuing a romantic relationship. Some people don’t need another person to make their lives meaningful. If this is you, then good for you.

As for the rest of you who wish they had someone to cuddle with come Valentine’s Day, here are a few tips to help you deal with all the time you have being yourself and not trying to impress someone (see what I did there?).

Stay Off Social Media

Some people just love shoving their relationships in other people’s faces through social media. It gets even worse come February. This leaves a bitter taste in the mouth for some people but you can’t actually do anything about it. It’s their social media account and they can post anything they want as long as it abides by the rules and regulations of said platform, of course.

As for you, your best option is to quit social media or at least stay off it for a while. And please, stop stalking your ex’s Facebook page. Once you’re off social media, you’ll realize how much valuable time and opportunities you have wasted just staring at your screen and swiping here and there.

Take Up Something New Or Revisit An Old Hobby

Make better use of your time by engaging in activities you’ve always wanted to try. Nothing of the illicit or illegal kind, of course.  You can also revisit an old hobby that you somehow forgotten all these years.

Bits and Pieces Wooden Puzzle Desk with Puzzle Storage System

Do you like building jigsaw puzzles? How about some sketching? Surely there’s something you want to try but was afraid to do so before. Or maybe there’s something you loved to do but hasn’t gotten to doing it for a long time. Now is the perfect time.

Treat Yourself

Having no one to go out with doesn’t mean you don’t deserve to go out and have some fun. Reward yourself with a fantastic cup of joe at your favorite coffee shop. Visit the local book store and buy a book or two. Go out later in the night and have a couple of drinks or so. Buy a box of chocolates and eat them all by yourself. You don’t actually have to give it to someone.

Spend Time with Your Friends

Surely not all your friends are in a relationship. Set up a singles’ night out with your friends. You’ll probably have a better time with them than some couples have with each other.

Visit Someone You Haven’t Seen for A While

When was the last time you paid your parents a visit? They’ll surely be happy to see you though you may need to let your Mom’s “Who are you dating?” questions and other snide remarks pass. Some parents are just like that. They love you so much but they also want a grandchild or something.

Take your parents out on a date or bring a bottle of wine home to share with them. Make them feel loved and appreciated even if no one feels the same for you. Well, except for your parents.

Stay Indoors

If you’re not feeling good about going out, go ahead and stay home. Make yourself some coffee and enjoy a slice of chocolate cake while wearing your PJs.

Pick a good book while you’re at it. Slice some gourmet cheese (or whatever you have in your fridge) and pop that bottle of wine. Enjoy them while binge watching on Netflix. Just stay away from the chick flicks.

Not your jam? Grab a beer and flex those muscles as you work on that DIY project you’ve been planning for months.

Look at the Positives

You may not have someone constant in your life right now but some people who’ve been in a relationship for quite a while now will readily tell you that you have it good. You get to watch the show you like on a nightly basis. That tub of ice cream or box of pizza in the fridge is all yours. The key is to look at what you have and be grateful.

Buy Yourself A Valentine’s Gift

Remember that mean-looking camping gear you’ve been eyeing? Go on and splurge on yourself. Just be wary of your finances, though. There are so many ways you can treat yourself and not worry about other people looking down on you for not having a date.

The secret to surviving Valentine’s Day is to not put too much pressure on yourself. Not everyone finds “the one” yet they are still happy and contented with their lives. If you indeed are longing to have a meaningful relationship, you can’t find one by sulking in your home and feeling sorry every time you see a lovey-dovey couple.
