When you mix carbon, hydrogen and the ever-important oxygen, you get something that homesteaders and preppers would love to have in their pantries — glycerin. It is indeed a must-have in every home due to its many amazing uses. Some of which are listed below.
Protects Skin

Glycerin aids in the formation of a barrier which keeps toxins from entering the body through the skin. It’s like having the force-field generating powers of Scarlet Witch or the Invisible Woman but in the form of colorless liquid. Yeah… that was bad but you get the gist, right?
Improves Dry, Flaky Skin

The same barrier that keeps the toxins out, traps the moisture in. This helps in improving conditions that result to dry and flaky skin such as psoriasis. In treating psoriasis, simply mix equal parts of glycerine and aloe vera gel then apply on your scalp. Leave it for 30 minutes then shower like normal.
Eczema is another notorious skin condition that can be treated with glycerine. Mix equal parts of glycerine and water then apply the mixture to the affected area using a cotton ball. Leave it on for 15 minutes before rinsing with warm water.
Smoothens Skin

Glycerin is a common ingredient of skin moisturizers sold in stores. As mentioned, this polyol compound preserves moisture on the skin keeping it smooth. Apply glycerine directly on the skin, particularly in areas that are drier than the rest. Rinse it off with warm water after a few hours. Do this two to three times for best results.
Facial Toner

Glycerin is not only for your arms and other parts of the body. You can also use it on your face to improve its skin tone. Simply combine one teaspoon of glycerin and two tablespoons of rose water. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and spray your DIY toner after washing your face. It will also work on the rest of your body that needs toning. You can apply moisturizer afterwards to maximize its effects. Keep the spray bottle I the refrigerator. Use the mixture for up to one week only.
Heals Cracked Heels

Cracked heels are not just annoying, they also usually hurt. Get some relief by using glycerine on your heels. First, set up your foot spa by mixing warm water and a little soap in a basin. Soak your feet in the mixture for around five minutes. Once done, pat your feet dry then apply glycerine to your cracked heels. Massage it for five minutes. Leave it on then put on a pair of socks. Wear it overnight. Rinse your feet with warm water come morning.
Moisturizes the Lips

Make sure your lips are ready for some action come Valentine’s Day by keeping it sift and moisturized. Make your own lip moisturizer by simply mixing equal parts glycerine and rose water. Apply the resulting mixture to your lips every now and then, especially when you feel they’re a bit dry.
Lessens the Effects of Aging

The skin will go through some changes as the years pile up and not all of them are something you would appreciate. If you want to still look young, use glycerine to reduce skin aging. Just mix one teaspoon each of glycerine and vitamin E oil. Massage the mixture to your face and neck gently. Leave it for around 15 minutes before washing it off with warm water. Make this a nightly routine.
Keeps Nails Looking Healthy

You may not notice it but your nails can also become dry, particularly if you’re punk or emo and put on nail polish regularly. A combination of two tablespoons each of rose water and 3% hydrogen peroxide along with a tablespoon of glycerin will bring your nails back to prominence. Just apply the mixture onto your dry nails using a cotton ball. Leave it for about ten minutes. Rinse with warm water when you’re done.
Softens Hair

If you prefer not to have frizzy hair, you can do something about it with the help of glycerine. All you need is to apply some glycerine to your damp hair then wash it off after a few minutes. Do this two to three times a week and you’ll soon see an improvement.
Treats Skin Irritations

In an end of the word scenario or even an emergency situation where life goes a little bit off track, doctors will likely be busy saving others or being victims themselves. That will leave you with no other choice but to treat yourself. That’s basically fine if you’re just dealing with minor skin conditions such as rashes and burns. All you need is your trusty glycerine and you’re good to go.
