Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas for the Kitchen

There was a time when many thought a woman’s place was in the kitchen. This is one stereotype that needs to be broken if it hasn’t yet. Women are all over the place and in a good way.  We have female political leaders like, CEOs of huge companies, and even celebrities who are making a huge difference in the lives of many. That shouldn’t take anything away from women who love to make art in the kitchen.

For every Angela Markel, Nancy Pelosi, Malala Yousafzai, and Gretha Thunberg, there’s a Giada De Laurentiis, Daniela Soto-Innes, Clare Smyth, and Julia Child. All these people started out with someone or something inspiring them to pursue their passions.

If your wife is passionate about cooking, you’ll definitely make her a happy homesteader with some brand new kitchen equipment or tools.

FARMcurious Mason Jar Mold Free Fermenting Kit

Fermenting your own food is pretty easy especially if you have something like the FARMcurious Mason Jar Mold Free Fermenting Kit. With this kit, you can ferment just about any vegetable. All you need aside from this kit are wide mouth mason jars and the produce you want to ferment. To give you some idea, check out this list of fermented foods you should have in your prepper pantry.

To make your own fermented food, clean the ReCAP lid first with warm soapy water and then rinse thoroughly. Insert the rubber stopper into the ReCAP lid then attach the slender tip of the airlock into the top of the stopper. Fill the airlock with plain water then place its lid back. The airlock system allows carbon dioxide to escape but keeps air from the environment out.

Pack chopped vegetables and herbs into a clean and dry mason jar then pour in your salt-water solution. Leave one inch of space between the brine and the top of the jar. Cover the jar with the ReCAP lid with the airlock then set your counter for 3 to 6 weeks. Set aside in a cool dark place to ferment.

Don’t worry about the bubble. Those are just the carbon dioxide formed during fermentation. After 4 to 7 days, you can check the taste and crunchiness. If they are to your liking, simply remove the airlock and stopper then close the ReCAP lid and store in the refrigerator.

Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas for Woodworkers

Don’t you just love women who are handy with tools? Google “female woodworkers” and you’ll see there are quite a number of them. And mind you, they’re really good. If your wife is one of these people who get really creative with their hands, then brand new woodworking tools may just be the right Valentine’s Day gifts for them.

One of the most common woodworking mistakes by beginners is using the wrong tools for specific jobs. This can be quite a problem if you can’t afford all the hand and power tools out there.

If you’re new to woodworking, your best option is to invest on the most essential tools. As you hone your woodworking skills, save up to buy more tool and equipment. Even if you’re not doing some woodworking projects, these tools will be useful in doing house repairs. Here’s a list of the most essential power tools every beginner should think of getting. Two of these important tools are the drill and jigsaw.

DeWalt 20V MAX 1/2” Li-Ion Compact Drill/Driver Kit

One power tool that every woodworker, novice or otherwise, should have is an electric drill. Hand drills are, uhmm, handy when power is down and you need to drill some holes. But on normal days, an electric drill will help make your job easier and faster.

The DeWalt 20V MAX 1/2” Li-Ion Compact Drill/Driver Kit sports a motor capable of 300 watts of power, which is enough to accomplish different drilling and driving tasks. It comes with two-speed transmissions (0 t0 450 and 0 to 1,500 RPM) that allows you to toggle between driving and drilling in a jiff. The half-inch single-sleeve ratcheting chuck makes sure the drill bit doesn’t come loose while using the tool.

This DeWalt cordless drill and driver is a very convenient power tool. You can take it anywhere even if there is no electrical outlet. Since you’re not limited by the length of a cord, you can reach tight spaces. The power comes from the 2 lithium-ion batteries included in the kit. There’s also a compact charger and a contractor bag.

Bosch JS470E 7.0A D-Handle Jigsaw

You can always use handsaws but they take more time and effort to accomplish a task, mainly to cut wood and other materials, as compared to a power saw. The handheld jigsaw, for example, allows you to cut straight or curved lines without breaking sweat. Well, at least not that much.

The jigsaw is a favorite among newbies because of its versatility and ease of use. One of the best jigsaws around comes from Bosch, the company that first manufactured the jigsaw. Bosch acquired the invention from Albert Kaufmann, an engineer who made the first jigsaw in 1946 by using a saw blade on a sewing machine.

The Bosch JS470E 7.0A D-Handle Jigsaw boasts of a powerful 7.0 amp motor that allows easy but smooth cutting through wood, aluminum and mild steel. There’s a variable speed dial that lets you control the tool’s speed while the Constant Response circuitry maintains your chosen speed even in prolonged and heavy duty use. That helps keep your cuts precise and consistent along with the precision-machined plunging system.

The jigsaw is also designed to vibrate as little as possible for a more comfortable use and more accurate and smooth cuts. You can also choose among four orbital-action settings using a simple switch. These four blade strokes range from smooth to aggressive cuts.
